The Canadian alpine ski team revealed the names of three athletes that will compete in the women's events at the Sochi Olympics at a press conference in Quebec City on Thursday.

Marie-Michèle Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., Larisa Yurkiw of Owen Sound, Ont., and Brittany Phelan of Mont Tremblant, Que. will navigate the Russian slopes in search of an Olympic podium result.

They join Erik Guay of Mont Tremblant, Que., Jan Hudec of Calgary, and Manny Osborne-Paradis of North Vancouver, who were named to the men's team last week.

Gagnon is coming off her first career World Cup victory, taking the super combined event in Austria on Sunday. It was the first time in 30 years that a Canadian won a medal at a World Cup combined event.

She has also skied well in the slalom event, narrowly missing the podium at another Austrian World Cup at the end of December.

Yurkiw's jouney to the Olympics had a few bumps, which included her funding being cut. But she has risen to the task, with a strong sixth place finish in the downhill in Austria on Sunday.
