Ukraine wins women's 4x6K biathlon relay

Canada finishes in 8th place

The Ukrainian women won the gold medal in the 4x6 km relay in Sochi on Friday.

The team of Vita Semerenko, Juliya Dzhyma, Valj Semerenko, Olena Pidhrushna claimed the first place finish with a time of 1:10:02.5.

Russia claimed the silver medal with a time of 1:10:28.9 and Norway rounds off the podium finishing in 3rd with a time of 1:10:40.1.. None of the podium finishers had any shooting errors.

Canada's team of Rosanna Crawford, Megan Imrie, Megan Heinicke, Zina Kocher finished in 8th, with a time of 1:12:21.5 and two shooting errors.

The gold gives Ukraine their first at Sochi and second overall medal of the games, the other being Semerenko's bronze for the 7.5 km sprint.

The win comes a day after news of skiier Bogdana Matsotska decided to leave Sochi and Friday's race due to political unrest and killing.
