John Tavares's Olympic experience is ending early and Team Canada will have to deal with another injury to one of its forwards.

The New York Islanders centre was banged up in the second period of Canada's 2-1 win over Latvia after colliding with Arturs Kulda on the end boards.

It's Canada's second major injury since the Olympic team named was named on Jan. 7. Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos didn't make the trip with Team Canada to Sochi, still in the midst of his recovery from a broken leg.

Coach Mike Babcock confirmed to reporters after Wednesday's game that Tavares wouldn't return to the tournament.

He didn't have any points in the team's four games.
