Daria Gaiazova was born in Russia and took up skiing at the age of 12, before moving with her family to Quebec four years later.
She has been on Canada's senior cross-country team for 10 years. She reached the World Cup podium in team sprint in 2010 with Chandra Crawford, and in early 2013 with Perianne Jones.
Gaiazova, who will be 30 during the Winter Olympics held in her country of birth, represented Canada at the Vancouver Olympics, finishing 16th in the 4 x 5 km relay and 22nd in the individual sprint.
Gaiazova loves knitting and cooking, is trilingual (English, French and Russian) and has a personal motto: "Only dead fish swim with the stream."
